This Man With Alzheimer’s Lost His Ability to Speak. Watch as His Furry Friend Gives it Back to Him.
Nothing can beat the affection and joy that dogs bring to our lives. Their cheerful wags, exuberant kisses, and ability to be completely in-the-moment are therapeutic. They open us up in a way other humans can’t, effortlessly reaching those who have have withdrawn from the world.
The unconditional love that dogs give has the power to bring healing, and the opportunity to witness everyday miracles.
The unbreakable bond between man and dog is sweetly illustrated in the video below. This man has Alzheimer’s, which has robbed him of most of his speech. He doesn’t communicate verbally very easily, or very often. But when his dog comes around, you can see him light up. When the happy pooch wags his tail and brings a toy to him, the man is delighted to have the company, and it’s quite plain that the feeling is mutual.
As he pets and pats his friend, the words start to come easily. Speaking softly to his dog, the man is back to himself for a moment, touchingly able to tell the content pup “Why don’t I take care? I’ll take you. And you take me.” It’s a special moment that shows how incredibly powerful the love of dogs can be.

Alzheimer’s continues to grow costlier, and the prevalence of this tragic disease only continues to grow. Many American elders depend on Medicare for coverage of treatment they need during their golden years, but Medicare does not cover long-term care for Alzheimer’s, leaving family and loved ones to shoulder a care burden currently estimated to be worth over $217 billion.
This cannot continue! You can help America’s Alzheimer’s patients by signing our petition demanding Medicare step up and cover 100% of long-term care for any person with Alzheimer’s or other dementias whose doctor has recommended it. Click here to help!
