Watching a loved one grapple with Alzheimer’s can be extremely heartbreaking, and for kids, it can also be a little confusing.
The children in this video have either a parent or grandparent who has dementia, and dealing with such a life-changing illness at a young age has made these kids a bit wiser than their peers. They’ve become more resilient, more melancholy, and more kind. It’s allowed them to experience empathy, frustration, and anger. It’s taught them to cherish time with loved ones. It’s given them hope, but it’s also made them see things more realistically.
It’s an unfortunate part of their lives, but they handle it as best as they can.
“It’s just part of my life now,” one young girl says in the video, with tears in her eyes. “The trick is to look for good moments.”
