Life can be very difficult, especially when you are an elderly individual suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. At that point, it can be more than difficult, it can be downright frightening.
For some people, it means trying to navigate on your own or perhaps getting some help at a nursing facility.
For many families, however, it means giving of yourself and caring for your aged parent or grandparent as they are suffering through this difficult time.
That is how Jason Van Genderen, an Australian filmmaker, has been handling the situation along with his wife, Meagan.
They have been staying home with their three children as a result of the coronavirus but they also are caring for his mother, Hendrika at the same time.
Hendrika is 87 years old and she suffers from vascular dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. As a result, she has a very difficult time maintaining her cognitive functions.
She is unable to get out and go to the grocery store as she once did, and living life differently than she has in the past puts a real strain on her.
That is why the Genderen family decided they would bring the grocery store to her rather than having her risk her health by going out. It gives her the opportunity to shop for her favorite foods without having to leave home.
