While Alzheimer’s is a very common disease, it is somehow not talked about as often as other conditions. There is not enough information in the public sphere about Alzheimer’s. To right this imbalance, Victoria, whose dad was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, chose to talk about her dad’s diagnosis. She talks about the early signs of the disease, how the diagnosis has changed the relationships in her family for the better and how her family copes with the diagnosis. Her advice for the family of those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s: laughter is the best medicine.
An Alzheimers diagnosis is heartbreaking and deeply frightening, hitting us with the realization that our minds are going to be affected and the inevitable outcome is death – because Alzheimer’s disease is ultimately deadly.
