Bill and Glad have known each other almost their whole lives. Bill became best friends with Glad’s older brother when they were all kids. When they grew into teenagers, Bill noticed that Glad had a crush on him — she would stare at him when he was playing games or riding his bike — but he wasn’t interested. That is, until a couple of years later. When he was 17 and she was 16, he saw her dressed up in an A-line dress, and that was it. “Boom, it was gone,” he says. “She was the one for me then.”
When they were dating, he would ride his bike to visit her on Saturday afternoons. And when they were married, they attached baby seats to their bikes so they could tote around their children with them. Bikes have been, and always will be, a part of their lives — and that’s more important now than ever.
See, a few years ago, Glad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. So Bill had a special bike made that would allow them to continue to do some of the things they’d always done. It’s a bike chair, with a seat attached to the front for Glad.
“She has done so much for me over all of these years,” Bill says. “Now she can’t, but I can, and I can return her love. And it’s a love that — well, for me, means that I can do everything for her. She’s my princess. I’m her William. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Last year, Bill and Glad celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Watch the video to hear more about this incredible love story.Whizzco
