Couple Celebrated 69th Anniversary After 2 Years of Heartbreaking Separation Due to the Pandemic

“I don’t care if it’s one hour, two hours, ten days, ten years, I just want to be with her,” said Kenneth Gage, who got separated from his wife of 69 years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple endured two years of being apart while Elizabeth had to stay at the Woodland Rehab facility, where visitors were not allowed due to COVID-19. Kenneth could only kiss his wife through a glass door throughout their long wait to be together again.

It was a challenging and heartbreaking time because both had been taken ill after getting infected by SARS-CoV-2. It was also the first time since high school that they experienced this kind of painful separation, with the future seeming so uncertain.

But, finally, the chance to be with each other again opened for Kenneth and Elizabeth.

Kenneth surprised his wife with flowers and balloons at the facility in celebration of their 69th wedding anniversary.

“They’re way more in love now than even when I was growing up,” said their daughter Darcie Mindel. “They always celebrated their birthdays in black tie on their own, they didn’t go to restaurants. My dad put on a tux, my mom put on an evening gown and they had dinners my whole life. They didn’t have money for a steak dinner, and they didn’t want to go out for a steak dinner. They just wanted to be together.”

So what is the secret of their blissful marriage?

Kenneth said it was friendship. Elizabeth was his best friend since he was 17 and she was just 15. Their relationship passed the many tests of time because they’ve shared more than love and romance. Their friendship was the strong bond that kept them together, come hail or storm.

And not even COVID-19 succeeded in keeping them apart.

“Love is easy, but friendship is something that happens only once or twice to a person. It’s something that just doesn’t break,” explained Kenneth.

“I just want young people to know marriage takes work, and it’s so rewarding,” added Elizabeth.

This couple surely deserves the warmest congratulations from everybody!
